A bit about me personally, I am a Perth local and have lived here my whole life, growing up in the hills, just near Mundaring.

I love to travel and have been very fortunate to have experienced many different countries and cultures, though my bucket list is still extensive. I love to explore, be that a whole new country, or a national park within WA. I find you gain perspective visiting new places you cant get any other way.

I am an engineer by degree, and I love learning how things work, and nerding out over cars, motorcycles, and of course, cameras.

Photography is my passion and has been for many years now. It sets my soul on fire! I love telling a story through my images and creating memories of special moments for people to enjoy.

The Short Story:

After having a camera in my hands for the almost all of my childhood and teenage years, I began Logan McNeil Media at the end of my first year at university, where I studied engineering. I continued to do photography as my weekend job, alongside hospitality work, throughout my degree and during my first years working as an engineer.

That brings us to the present day, where I am working as an engineer, but feeling largely unfulfilled by the work. I am chasing the goal of full-time creative entrepreneur, running my media company, creating value by capturing memories as photos and videos for real people, such as yourself.

The Long Story:

I have been fortunate to grow up in a family that valued cameras, both photo and video. Much of my childhood is captured in photos, and recorded on VCR tapes and Mini DV tapes, before digital camcorders were a thing. I loved being a part of this process as well, asking my parents for a turn with the camera. I had several cameras myself growing up, all simple point and shoots, until my mum got a Nikon DSLR, and it quickly became my new favourite thing. For the time, it was a pretty impressive camera, these days its pretty ancient - technology moves fast. I learned so much with that camera over many years and it really properly started my photographic journey.

In 2019 I finally upgraded to a Sony mirrorless camera, which I would use for the next 4 years before upgrading again. This camera was fantastic value for money, it had so many great features, and most importantly, could shoot high quality video with good autofocus. This allowed me to elevate my photo quality, but also learn videography as well.

In terms of ‘professional’ photo work, I had shot a few things for friends birthdays, but Logan McNeil Media truly came to be in October 2020 after I shot a university event for free on a whim. From there, having made a name and logo, I was hooked. From there, I reached out to everyone I knew and I shot everything I could, focusing on events. University events, birthday parties, engagement parties, hospitality venue events.

Despite having worked at a wedding venue as hospitality staff for over two years, I didn’t have much draw to wedding photography - it seemed too hard, too stressful, not for me. I eventually entered into the wedding space through a chance encounter with a wedding photographer who happened to see my Instagram post of a waterfall in the Perth Hills and decided to DM me. She then referred me to a wedding videographer who was in need of a second shooter. Crazy right? I guess the stars aligned for me that day. From that first wedding I second shot, which was also the first wedding I had been to as an adult, my perspective shifted and I was super interested in wedding photography and videography.

I have worked with several wedding photographers and videographers second shooting weddings for the last few years now, before booking and capturing weddings on my own starting in 2024.

Currently, I am still working as an engineer full time, but working towards my goal of capturing memories and creating value for real people, running Logan McNeil Media full time.
